Welcome Richie — PPSC’s New Surf Manager

We are absolutely delighted to welcome Richie Dianta to the PPSC management team.

Having grown up just down the road, close to his home and favorite wave at Bingin, Richie is one of Bali’s most experienced surf guides.

He started work as a surf guide in Tubes bar/restaurant in Kuta, which was famous in the ’80s/’90s, before continuing to work in other local surf shops as a surf guide as the local surf scene grew.

Many local instructors like to think of themselves as the most experienced but Richie is the real deal; carrying boards as a child for the first visiting foreign surfers and truly one of Bali’s original surf guides.

For the last 10 years, Richie has mostly worked coaching Japanese and some European surfers on a freelance basis. During that time, he’s enjoyed surf trips to the islands of Lembongan, Lombok, and Sumbawa, surfing famous spots such as Scar Reef and Super Suck.

Surfing his go-to 5’7″ Light surfboard, Richie’s favorite spot is his backyard at Bingin’s perfect barrel machine and Uluwatu when it’s too small for Bingin. With one perfect wave within 100 meters and another less than a ten-minute drive away, there’s no need to ever leave town!

Out of the water, Richie is known as a bit of a singer and enjoys some karaoke. Even when he’s not surfing you’ll often find Richie at the beach hanging out with friends and taking in the sunset with a cold Bintang.

If he’s not at the beach he’s probably at his family temple nearby, which is a very important part of Balinese culture.

When asked about his new role at PPSC, Richie told us he’s very happy to have a serious management position in Bali’s best surf camp, which allows him to pass on his vast surfing experience, both directly and with the other expert instructors at PPSC.

Fluent in English and Japanese, Richie has been surfing for 25 years, coaching and guiding for over 20 years, and draws experience from literally thousands of sessions at the breaks in our local area, so he’s sure to be a very valuable member of the PPSC team.

Richie and all the staff here at PPSC are looking forward to welcoming you on your next stay with us and hope to see you very soon.
