An investment in your health and happiness that will last a lifetime
While we are used to the many first-time and returning guests having a great time while staying with us, we wanted to develop a program to help people have a great rest of their life when not on holiday.
A retreat that gives you the tools to manage everyday stresses of family, work, and relationships while teaching you how to increase your levels of happiness.
This translates into better sleep, increased creativity, improved health, happier relationships, and an overall sense of peace and contentment.
The techniques used in our program are drawn from the latest psychological research studies on happiness and wellbeing as well as age-old mindfulness practices from yogic/Buddhist/Taoist traditions. You will uncover lasting improvements to the quality of your life with journaling and mindfulness activities.
When you join us for this retreat, it’s more than just a week of fun in the surf, it’s an investment in your health and happiness that will last a lifetime.
Yoga, wellness and fitness activities
A complete health regime must address not just our physical needs but our mental and spiritual sides as well.
We realise that yoga encompasses more than just contorting the body into various shapes. The system of yoga employs a variety of physical and mental methods to help bring all aspects of our inner and outer world into balance.
We offer both relaxing and energizing activities to keep all parts of us happy.
Yoga
Yin/restorative yoga, ball therapy, and guided relaxation are practices to help us de-stress, relax, and rejuvenate after an active day at the beach.
Vinyasa flow is more energising and strengthening and can be a good way to start the day.
Pranayama/breathing exercises such as ‘breath of fire’, ‘alternate nostril breathing’, ‘Wim Hof’, ‘bees breath’, ‘breath retention’, and simply slowing the breath down, can all be effective ways to regulate our nervous system in a beneficial way.
Conscious breathing is often the most powerful part of a yoga practice and induces a profound sense of serenity that builds over time and can be life-changing.
The meditation techniques we teach help to cultivate focus and awareness of the present moment. Getting better at living in the now is a major skill that will lessen our suffering and increase the joy we can experience every day.
Both breath work and meditation are regularly included in yoga sessions.
Other fitness activities include:
- Skateboarding (skateboards available as well as a halfpipe to carve on and improve your surf technique)
- Tennis (tennis court on-site — a rarity in Bali!)
- Kickboxing (gloves, heavy bag and pads all provided)
- HIIT training
Why us?
There’s a wellness retreat on every corner in Bali these days so we wanted to design a program with a difference that combines our unique strengths with the top instructors in and out of the water to deliver you with the best possible experience.
What makes Padang Padang Surf Camp one of the most sought after retreat centres in the world is not just the upmarket architect-designed accommodation, nor the world-class waves right on our doorstep, nor even the delicious healthy food, but the highly-qualified instructors that you won’t find elsewhere.
Markus Davies
Our retreat leader Markus (ERYT500) takes nonsense seriously.
As a decades-long yoga teacher/practitioner and dedicated surfer, he has developed a unique approach to teaching that explores the relationship between self-discipline and play.
Having explored a wide variety of yoga and movement systems, Markus offers a style all his own which encourages self-exploration and a willingness to ‘colour outside the lines’.
Inspired by nature in all its forms, Markus considers the ocean his primary teacher — drawing from it a profound understanding of the human condition.
Markus has led retreats and training across the globe instilling a deep sense of self-trust and freedom in his students. Classes with Markus will leave you feeling invigorated, empowered and more deeply connected to the world within and around you.

Our program offers something for everyone and includes more than enough to keep you stoked, healthy and happy. However, we encourage participants to pace themselves by not trying to do everything, which would be exhausting. In fact, it will be impossible to join all the surf and yoga activities every day. Instead, we recommend listening to your body, take some relaxation time by the pool, and make choices that will facilitate balance and your overall well-being.
